About Us

Custom Home Furnishings, LLC, was started in November of 1995 out of necessity. Necessity for us because we no longer wanted to work for other people, and we saw a need for a store where everyone was treated fairly and honestly. We are the Gray brothers - Kevin and John. Our first location opened on Market Street, a 6,000 square foot space.

During those first 5 years our business continued to grow and so did our faithful customer base. Our customers continued asking us to carry more and more products so they could continue buying from us. We found ourselves out of space when we received a call one day that our competitor would soon be going out of business. We quickly jumped on the opportunity to take over that building in the fall of 2000. The move would either make us or break us.

Going from a 6,000 square foot showroom to an over 20,000 square foot showroom was a daunting task. Not only did we have to fill it, we also had to pay for it. As usual our loyal customers came through. They continued to buy more and more just the way they said they would. They sent in their friends and family to make purchases as well. From that point on there was no looking back. We were now a full-fledged furniture store whether we liked it or not.

As the next 8 years went by, we continued to grow. Our philosophy of treating our customers like family has really paid off. In 2007 we were still hearing our customers asking for more: more lines, more products, and more categories.

Then a unique opportunity presented itself. The high-end store in town, Murrow Furniture Galleries, was ready to sell out. Again, we quickly jumped on the opportunity. This was an opportunity to expand our lines, expand on the sheer numbers of our products and give us a chance to increase our product categories. This seemed like the answer to our prayers. On May 1, 2008, we opened Custom Home Furniture Galleries. It is a 50,000 square foot medium to high-end furniture store. We are now able to cover all categories of home furnishings. We offer unique items with special order options so customers can get exactly what they want. In 2013 we added a Sleep Shop within our showroom to bring a quality mattress resource to our loyal client base.

As our store became a furniture staple in the community, we were called frequently for another need: Builders and Real Estate agents looking to furnish Model Homes and Resale Real Estate. We opened Custom Home Staging and Design in 2015 to serve our real estate and new construction community and help showcase their products to the highest level.

With furniture and staging comes décor. In May 2018 we opened another store here in Wilmington, niche. Décor and Gifts. niche. began as an idea of a store filled with gifts, small décor items and Bramble Furniture. With a focus on philanthropic brands and providing gifts and décor for all budgets, what was planned to be a little “gift shop with Bramble Furniture” has grown more than we could have ever imagined. niche. has since taken on an identity of its own. Known now as the premier gift shop in town, niche. offers gifts and décor items for all occasions and all budgets. To complement the Bramble Furniture, niche. also carries its own signature line of custom special order upholstery.

For years, we had one more need that friends, family and clients continued to ask for: starting price point, in stock, value furnishings - much like an Outlet Store would have. Custom Home Furniture Outlet opened in January of 2022. The need in the market to offer top quality, ready for immediate delivery products at heavily discounted prices was finally met. Through our long standing industry relationships, we source showroom samples, closeout products and factory direct values for the store’s unique and ever changing inventory.

Through our many years of serving Southeastern North Carolina we have become widely known for our expertise in furniture and design; our attentiveness towards our customers and their needs; our trustworthiness in delivering quality products and services; and our performance in the furniture industry that has allowed us to grow beyond what we ever could have imagined.
